Vertical Racing started the season strong this year with Rob Parks in the Ginetta Junior series and Gary Corcoran in the Irish Supercars, Powered by Pirelli.

The Ginetta Junior Ireland championship rounds 3&4 took place on Saturday with Rob Parks setting pole on the first laps but later dropping down the order to third due to track conditions getting worse and being on a dry setup as well as dry tyres in wet conditions. Megan Campbell took pole for her first ever time! Followed by Chris Grimes, Rob Parks, Se Og Martin and Matthew Nicholl.

Race one: Rob Parks started P3 on the grid, off the line it was Megan Campbell who took the lead, followed by Christopher Grimes, Se Og Martin, Rob Parks and Matthew Nicholl.

Throughout the race parks climbed up the order to second but was challenged by Se Og Martin.

The race went on. While all this happened Megan Campbell, the Strangford native took full advantage to extend the lead and take the win.

Race two began, parks jumped off the line going from 4th to 2nd by the first corner. The race went on and Parks took Christopher Grimes coming into the last corner. Parks took the lead after a climb from 4th on the grid to 1st in one lap! He continued to achieve consistent and fast lap times. Back the grid the other 4 continued to battle extremely close. This gave parks the chance to pull away even further from the pack and take the race win by over 3 seconds. The final order in race two:

  1. Rob Parks
  2. Se Og Martin
  3. Christopher Grimes
  4. Matthew Nicholl
  5. Megan Campbell

Vertical Racing’s Irish Supercar driver Gary Corcoran also had a very successful first weekend in the Pirelli Irish Supercar Championship.  Starting on pole for race one Gary managed to hold the lead off the line and for some of the first laps but due to past gearbox gremlins that came back he soon dropped back and could not get the car into 3rd gear. Cameron Fenton then had the chance to extend his lead and take the win. With Gary Corcoran in second.

Race two: Gary started P2 on the grid and got a great start soon taking the lead. Cameron Fenton dropped to fourth but soon began the climb back up the grid. Gary Corcoran extended his lead throughout the race as Fenton climbed back to second but did not have enough time left in the race to challenge Corcoran.

“I really enjoyed this weekend’s racing, it was challenging and all of the Ginetta Junior class are extremely even this year which makes for some fantastic racing”- stated  Rob Parks following race two.

All in all a great weekends racing for the Vertical team. It’s shaping up to be a repeat of last year for the team.  Maybe with even more championships!   Great performance from Ireland’s premier racing team.
