The Irish Supercar Championship powered by Pirelli begins this weekend, April 14th & 15th. The 2018 Championship opens with the first race weekend taking place in Mondello Park.

The impressive standard of driving throughout the 2016 and 2017 championship has heightened the interest for the upcoming season and has led to an influx of new drivers coming to race for the title of Irish Supercar Champion 2018.

If last year’s racing season is anything to go by, the battle for the championship will be extremely close this year. Peter Barrable took the win in 2017, with the title battle not being decided until the very last race weekend in Brands Hatch.

Many of the drivers from 2017 will battle for their place on the grid this weekend with Gary Corcoran, Graeme Colfer, Alan Kessie and John Cardoo returning. Seasoned racer Alan Watkins, eight times Irish Stryker Championship winner joins the class this year along with Cameron Fenton and Charlie Linnane, who both raced previously with the Ginetta Junior Championship.

Cameron and Charlie who raced in the Ginetta Junior Championship for 14-17 year olds, will want to make their mark in the first race weekend of the year and will make themselves known on track. The teens won’t have an easy run as they are up against a number of highly experienced drivers  – all looking to earn important 20 championship points for each race win.

This year the Irish Supercar Championship will be teaming up with the Irish Touring Car Championship (ITCC) for races in Mondello, Bishopscourt and Kirkistown. By joining with the ITCC, the Supercar drivers will have a larger grid for each race meeting so we’re expecting some exciting close racing throughout the 2018 Season.

Irish Supercar Championship announced in 2016 that Pirelli will be title sponsor for the class as part of a two year deal along with previous class sponsors including Keogh’s Crisps, Dublin Crystal and Monsoon Estates Coffee.  The Irish Supercar Championship will have a hospitality suite overlooking Mondello’s main straight for every championship race weekend. The Irish Supercars suite will be open to visitors who can enjoy complimentary Keogh’s Crisps and Monsoon Estates Coffee whilst watching first class racing.

About the Irish Supercar

In 2015, ASK racing introduced a new series to Irish Motorsport, the ASK Supercar Championship, now known as the Irish Supercar Championship – Powered by Pirelli.

The series runs the former RT2000/Supercar spaceframe machines, powered by 2000cc Zetec engines.  The SHP built spaceframe machines formed the basis of the RT2000/Supercar class, which has produced some of the best racing ever seen in Ireland.

As well as racing at Mondello Park in Kildare, the series visits both Kirkistown and Bishopscourt in Northern Ireland and Brands Hatch in Kent in the UK. Drivers also have the option of competing in non-championship events at circuits around the UK and Europe.
