This weekend has seen rounds one and two of the Ginetta Junior Ireland season take place in Northern Ireland’s Kirkistown circuit.

Qualifying started early on Saturday and it was Rob Parks who took pole Position by 3 tenths over Seog Martin with Matthew Nicholl in 3rd Christopher Grimes was 4th on the grid and Megan Campbell completed the grid in 5th.

Race one started as the sun was shining down. It was a very close race from the start with seog Martin taking the lead into the first corner followed by Rob Parks. Parks and Martin started to pull away from the pack and dice backward and forward for the entire race back the grid slightly, more great battles were taking place between Matthew Nicholl and Christoper Grimes. Parks passed Martin going into colonial one and the pair battled on through the race. Rob Parks crossed the line to take the win from Seog Martin, Matthew Nicholl, Christopher Grimes and Megan Campbell who was struggling with car trouble and clutch trouble all weekend.

The lights went out and race two began, once again Seog got the lead into colonial one followed closely by Rob Parks and Christopher Grimes. Parks and Martin began to pull away from the pack and battle once again. Parks made a move going into the hairpin and managed to pass Seog Martin. Christopher Grimes then managed to catch the front two and begin battling with Seog. Parks seemed to use this to his advantage and pull away to give himself some breathing space for a couple of laps. Toward the end of the race it was Parks who led once again from Seog Martin, Christopher Grimes, Matthew Nicholl and Megan Campbell. It was extremely close out of the last corner but it was parks who took the win once again from Seog Martin, Christopher Grimes, Matthew Nicholl and then Megan Campbell.

A fantastic weekend for Rob Parks from Ballina Tipperary after taking both pole positions and two race wins. “ a fantastic way to start the season, couldn’t be happier and looking forward to the season ahead” Parks said.

Some great racing from the Ginetta Junior Ireland class this weekend and just a taster of what’s to come throughout the year!
