GT driver Matt Griffin has arrived in Mexico ready for round 5 of the FIA World Endurance Championship, due to take place at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City this coming weekend.

The Irishman rejoins Clearwater Racing team-mates, Mok Weng Sun and Kieta Sawa after a summer break, in the number 61 Ferrari 488 GTe, and is raring to go.

“I’m super excited to race in Mexico, it will be my first time racing at this track but it’s a circuit steeped in history and after being revamped a few years ago looks fantastic’, explained Griffin.

The trio are currently leading the GTE Am  but 8 points at this half way point in the championship,  ahead of the Porsche Proton Racing team in second and Aston Martin Racing team in 3^rd.

Matt continues, “We have had a super strong WEC season so far including winning at Silverstone.  To be leading the championship at the halfway point is a great achievement but we understand that the competition is fierce.  Weng (Mok Weng Sun) and Kieta (Sawa) have been doing great so far this season so hopefully we can keep the momentum into that 2nd half of the season.”

The Cork based driver comes in to this weekends race on the back of two consecutive wins in the European Le Mans Series where he drives a similar Ferrari 488 Gte run by Spirit of Race, one of those wins being only last weekend in France where Griffin took pole for qualifying and he and his team mates managed to hold it there all through the 4 hour race.

” Overall my season has been going really well, last weekend was no difference. My teammates Duncan Cameron and Aaron Scott did a mega job and it was just up to me to bring the car home. Coming into Mexico after a weekend like we had in Paul Ricard definitely give me confidence”.

This weekend kicks off on Friday 1^st September 2017 with free practice at 17.15. A second free practice session will take place on Saturday at 09.30 and qualifying will begin at 17.50.  The 6-hour race will start at 12pm on Sunday 3^rd September 2017.
