Qualifying will take place early Sunday morning and will decide who takes pole for the two races later in the day. Alan Dawson is one to watch, having taken pole position for both races at the last Mondello meeting. With rain expected for the weekend, it will be interesting to see who comes out at the front.

Peter Barrable has changed from his old Zetec engine to the newer Duratec engine ahead of the weekend. It will be exciting to see how he up’s his pace with the newer engine. Alan Dawson has shown the Duratec engine is definitely a worthwhile upgrade, having gained two race wins with it in the season opener.

Barry Hallion, run by Kellett Motorsport, also returns to the grid this race weekend. After having to pull out of the season opener due to mechanical difficulties, we’re looking forward to seeing him back on track.

Philip Jones and Ray Finnegan join Peter Barrable on the ASK Racing team this weekend. Team boss, Alan Kessie, also makes his season debut. Having sat out the last race weekend and much of last years season, he will definitely try to make his mark on the grid on Sunday.

With a lot of work gone into prepping Supercars ahead of round two, we hope to see some close competition between all the drivers.

Note to Editor:

The 2017 ‘Irish Supercar Championship powered by Pirelli’ sees many of last years drivers returning to the grid, with the addition of new drivers – Gary Corcoran and Robbie Parks. It will be interesting to see how the addition of the new Drenth gearbox performs, with Barry Hallion and Peter Barrable the first to test it under race conditions. Alistair Kellett Racing, again runs Barry Hellion this year and we are looking forward to seeing how Kellett Motorsport performs throughout the year. Unfortunately Barry Hallion was out of the championship last year, a problem which has been resolved with the change to Drenth gearboxes.

Alan Dawson returns to the grid with Sean Woods Racing running him for the second year in a row. Robbie Parks of Vertical Racing makes his return to racing this season, making the switch from running Formula Sheane’s, after joining the grid for last year’s race in Brands Hatch.

The ASK Racing team have a number of drivers on the grid this year. Last year’s championship contender, Peter Barrable continues his assault with the team alongside Philip Jones. Ray Finnegan will also be driving an ASK Racing owned car throughout the season.

The battle between Kellett Motorsport, ASK Racing, Vertical Racing and Sean Woods Racing will continue on June 11th and we’re sure we will see the drivers stake their claim for the championship title.

This news comes after the Irish Supercar Championship announced in December that Pirelli have come on board as title sponsor for the class as part of a two year deal. A huge step forward in image and driver quality has resulted in this championship rising in interest and stature.

With many of last year’s sponsors staying on board, mainly Keogh’s Crisps, Dublin Crystal (providing trophies for each race weekend) and Monsoon Estates Coffee. The Irish Supercar Championship will have a suite overlooking the main straight for every race weekend in Mondello Park. The Irish Supercars suite will be open to visitors during the race weekend who can enjoy complimentary Keogh’s Crisps and Monsoon Estates Coffee whilst watching the racing.
