Following on from a pole position, a win in round 1 and the Mazda RX7 torching itself in round 2, Shane Rabbitt has had his work cut out to tame the fiery beast.  Rotary engines are notorious for spitting flames from the free flow exhaust system.  With a desire to run the engine slightly rich, the cocktail of unburnt fuel, high temperatures and oxygen as the gasses leave the exhaust can compromise the bodywork somewhat.  Speaking to Shane, he said he would ‘FIRE’ some info over to topgear.ie later.  An ill-advised choice of words!

Rabbitt’s solution is to re-direct the exhaust and purpose build a new rear diffuser to direct the angry flames away from the bodywork.  “We’re nearly sorted and should be fine for the trip across the water” noted the Dunshaughlin driver.

Engineering a few tweaks, together with rear repairs should see the RX7 competitive again.  “I’m really looking forward to Pembrey Circuit, as I think it will suit myself and the car” explained Rabbit.  “I want to thank my sponsors, micksgarage.ie & LF Fitness.fullsizeoutput_1143IMG_1998
