Fernando Alonso has completed a total 40 controlled laps to complete the ‘Rookie Orientation Program’ at the Indy 500 circuit today.  He reached a lap average speed of 219.654mph.

With changeable weather forecast, Alonso will go straight into a test program.  He will now experiment with aero setup, as the car was set up to be ‘neutral’ for the orientation.

Alonso looked at ease during the program in his McClaren Andretti Dallara Honda.

Mario Andretti was commenting on the live coverage for a world wide audience and said Alonso “did it in style”.

Alonso has now officially been entered in the “greatest spectacle in racing” on May 28th.  Testing will resume on May 15th following today’s test.
