Following the Bahrain Grand Prix, teams will remain in the Kingdom for a rare in-season test session.  A source from Japan claims Honda wish to have an improved power unit to run.

Honda Chief, Yusuke Hasegawa, has admitted that their current difficulty is with the combustion engine.  A new specification of their 2017 engine would need to be reliable and above all more powerful.  If Honda can achieve that goal and address their MPG issues, we could see it debut in Russia, earlier than expected.

Hasegawa said, “We do not want to set a date for this improvement, but we can do as many changes as we want because there are no tokens this year”.  He added “As soon as it is ready, we will use it”.
