The opening double header of the Formula Sheane Championship was held in the Co. Down circuit in Kirkistown. There was plenty of great action from the grid of well presented racing cars on this fast flowing circuit.
Qualifying saw Brian Hearty from Dundalk take pole followed by Mark Dunleavy with a gap of only three tenths. Robbie Allen and David Parks locked out the second row, followed by Chris McCabe, Richard Kearney, Kevin Sheane, Gary Corcoran, Leslie Shaw, Charlie Linnane and Martin Rafferty completing the grid.
Race one was a closely contested battle seeing Brian Hearty taking the win. David Parks drove a great race and was snapping at the rear wing of Hearty as they crossed the finish line. Mark Duleavy from Dublin took the final spot on the podium.
Race two saw Hearty get a good start with Dunleavy close behind. Hearty dropped back and Dunleavy took the lead and dominated to take the win. A talented drive saw Chris McCabe take second followed by Kevin Sheane with a gap of less than two tenths as they fought their way over the finish line.
The next double header will be held in Pembrey in the UK on May 20th/21st.
