Denning makes it six podiums from six races

A superb start in race one saw Daragh lead his Team MCP teammate

Mondello Park, Kildare, Ireland – Tuesday 20th September 2016: Having secured a double podium on his last visit to Mondello Park, Rathfarnham’s Daragh Denning was hoping the move to Mondello Park’s 3.5km International Circuit would give him the opportunity to take his maiden race victory in the series.

A dry Saturday morning qualifying provided the ideal conditions to utilise the benefits of the previous day’s test session under similar conditions. With a lap taking over two minutes around the long circuit and the session lasting just 15 minutes, Denning set about securing a safe time early in the session, before really giving it all he had towards the end. Setting the third fastest time on his final flying lap, Daragh would start the afternoons race one from the inside of row two.

Getting a brilliant launch as the lights went out, Denning was right with the class leading Harron brothers into turn one. Despite getting a squeeze on the run down to the first corner, the 16-year old emerged as the race leader on the run to turn two. Maintaining the advantage for the majority of the opening lap, Daragh had no answer for the straight line speed advantage of the Harron’s and slipped back to second on the run up to the last corner. With the brothers now in front, Daragh set about ensuring he kept himself in the optimum position to capitalise on any mistakes up ahead. Remaining in third to the flag, Daragh also secured the third fastest lap of the race.

Sunday’s second and final race of the weekend would be run over quite different track conditions. With rain failing on the Kildare circuit, Denning with a self-professed fondness for the wet conditions was hoping this would be his chance to make a big impression. With everyone getting a good start to the race, it was all clean exiting the first corner before Daragh quickly got past Morgan Quinn to move into third. Now on the coat tails of the Harron’s, he almost had a chance to move into second coming into Turn 7A. Unable to find a way past, Denning tried again two corners later, this time making the move stick to slot into second.

However with William Harron having already opened a sizable lead at the head of the field, Daragh set about putting in a sequence of consistent laps to ensure he maintained his second position to the flag, his sixth podium finish in a row.

Daragh Denning – #5 Team MCP Ginetta G20:
“I’m delighted with this weekend again, another two podiums making it six podiums from the last six races, so I couldn’t be happier with that. I was happy enough with third in race one on Saturday, I got a mega start in that one. Race two on Sunday was wet but I still got another good start in that one to get up to third, and then up to second with a few laps to go. Throughout the race I held a consistent pace, I wasn’t taking any chances of throwing the car off so overall I’m very happy with the weekend. Thanks to Morgan Dempsey and everyone at Team MCP for all their help this weekend and of course to my sponsors Dennings Crash Repairs and Ken Lawford Motors.
